A Complete Guide for Cleaning a Used Car for Car Owners

Car owners can keep their vehicles well-maintained and presentable if they regularly clean them and take good care of them. When a vehicle is in use it is bound to undergo wear and get dirty as well. Preparing for the Car Wash

The most basic task that is undertaken for the sake of keeping the car clean is washing it. This is often done by the car owners at home once a week or depending on the extent of the use. For the car wash, the car owners must prepare properly. They must make sure that they have the correct products that they will be using during the car wash. The cleaners must be specially made for the vehicles and should not be some household alternative such as a laundry detergent. Many car owners are negligent when shopping for car cleaning products and they resort to such alternatives. The problem with these products is that they may contain chemicals that are harmful to the car. The car owners must be wary of chemicals such as ammonia, bleach, chlorine, and hydrogen peroxide. The car cleaning accessories should be picked after scrutiny so that they do not scratch the surfaces while cleaning. The high-end products will ensure that the car wash is conducted without any problems.  

Undertaking the Car Wash

The temperature of the vehicle needs to be monitored before the wash can be started. If the car was parked without any shade, its exterior would be hot. So, it should not be washed, instead, it should be moved to a cool shaded area and wait for the temperature to drop. The car when washed with a hot exterior will leave water spots as the soap and water mixture will dry before it can be thoroughly rinsed. So, the first thing they need to check is the temperature of the vehicle. 

Once the car is ready to begin the wash, it should first be rinsed to remove dirt and any accumulated particles on the vehicle. Then the car wash can be started with the car wheels as they accumulate the most amount of dust and gunk. It is best if they are cleaned first so that the dirt does not spread any further. When the tyres are washed, separate cleaning tools should be used so that if there is debris, they do not damage the rest of the vehicle.

Then the body of the vehicle can be washed starting from the roof of the car. The car should be washed in sections so that it is cleaned without it getting water spots. Sections allow the car owner to pay attention to every inch of the vehicle properly and rinse it timely before the soap dries up.  

Cleaning the Interior

For the interior of the vehicle, the car owners must use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust. The surfaces can be wiped using an electrostatic cloth and vinyl cleaners. The car seat covers can also be cleaned instead of being washed. In case they are washed, the water used should be minimal so that the car seats dry properly without retaining any water in the cushions. If the water is retained, the cabin will begin to smell, and it can also cause molding inside the seats.  



For touchscreens and amenities, the electrostatic cloth can be sprayed with the cleaner, and then this cloth can be used to clean the screen. Directly spraying can damage the protective layer of the touchscreens. The windows should also be cleaned using a window cleaner and it is best to avoid a cleaner with ammonia to avoid damage. 

Post Car Wash Care

Once the car wash has been completed, the exterior can be dried using a microfiber towel that will be extremely gentle on the surface. A microfiber towel will also ensure that the surface is not scratched and dries completely.  Moreover, the exterior can also use some protection from the UV rays of the sun. For this purpose, the car owners can use a hand-applied car wax that will provide the paint of the exterior a protective layer preventing it from fading due to continuous exposure to the sun. It is best to use hand-applied car wax instead of spray-on as the latter will only give the vehicle shine and not a protective layer.
