Extreme weather affects the performance of a vehicle and it can also cause damage to essential components. If the vehicle is properly prepared before approaching extreme weather approaches, the motorists can avoid inconveniences during the season. In the UAE, extreme heat during summers can be detrimental for the vehicle’s engine, and wheels. Similarly, during winters fog causes massive visibility issues.  

Here are some ways motorists can prepare to protect their vehicles during extreme weather. 

Changing Fluids of the Vehicle 

The fluids in the vehicle need to be checked and if they are below the required level they need to be filled or replaced. The transmission fluids, windshield wiper fluid, and engine coolants must be checked regularly. During summers, the vehicle is likely to breakdown if the car overheats, therefore, the engine coolants must be checked. During winter, if the temperature drops substantially, the engine coolants can thicken. 

Another thing that is essential is the engine oil as it lubricates the parts ensuring that the mechanics stay running. Moreover, the oil filter captures debris and dust and keeps them from entering the oil system. The check owner must take their vehicle for regular service so that a professional can look and make the necessary improvements.  

Maintaining the Wheels of the Vehicle 

The wheels of the car are essential for maintaining a balance and if they are faulty the vehicle is at risk of an accident. In case the wheels are worn out they can overheat in extreme heat and blow out in the middle of the journey. The motorist may not be able to control the vehicle which can result in accidents. The car owners must check the treads of the wheels as the appearance of treads is a clear indication of wheel damage.  

The air pressure of the wheels must also be checked to ensure that they are properly inflated. Wheels have a tendency of losing or gaining air pressure depending on the weather. The car battery is essential to keep it running regardless of the weather, however, varying weather conditions have varying impacts on it. During extreme summers, the rate at which the battery loses its fluid is relatively faster compared to the rest of the year. This causes oxidization of the battery components. This results in the vehicle breaking down unexpectedly causing inconvenience and impacting the life of the battery. One way of checking if the alignment of the vehicle needs any adjustment is by noticing the steering wheel. If the steering wheel vibrates, or when driving straight the wheel is not centered, or if the car is pulling to one side, these are indications that the alignment of the vehicle needs adjustment.
